i have a gateway laptop that i bough from wal-mart in feb.of o9.have had no problems with it.sorry i dont have the model # with me right now.recently it will not connect to a wireless network.looked under the control panel and all the drivers are working correctly.took it to a tech guy that said the internal wireless card was probably shot.i am not very tech savy but very handy.where do i find this part if it is so the problem?looked like it was very simple to remove.also, how do i get discs from a mac that was downloaded with quick time to play on my computer.have downloaded quick time to computer but still doesnt work.also will not read on a dvd player.any suggestions???

hello johnnyd1
it would really be helpful if you could provide the name and model number from the sticker usually located underneath the lappy, would you like to run through a few things to check the card first? or would you prefer just to take it out and replace? there are usually 2 different wireless cards for laptops (from the pics) attached, the first 1 has 2 screws to retain it in place, and the second has two sprung clips either side to retain it in place, the discs you mention are they in mac format ? |

unfortunately im at work and do not have my laptop with me.i wiil go home bring info with me tomorrow.if i remember correctly when the tech took the back off it looked like it had two screws holding it in place and 2 wires which i cannot remember what they were for again.sorry that cant be much help.i dont know haw the discs are formatted but i know the lady that gave them to me said her husband downloaded them from their mac.
yes i would like to test instead of replacimg first if that will help me save $ would a wireless usb card help or would i still need the internal card to be able to connect to network? if the internal wireless card is not working on my laptop but the drivers are would buying an external wireless card get me access to the internet.the internal card will not let me connect to a network.if i plug computer directly into hard line i have internet access wiyth no problem.any suggestions??? hello johnnyd1
ok well to try things out like drivers, uninstalling it and attempting to find or check things with it ,it would be alot easier if you had it to hand as it would make things a bit quicker for both of us ,so if you want to drop me a line tomorrow when you have it with you i will be around and pick up your post quickly, if you have a wireless card or dongle it may be of use if we dont find a resolution to the onboard card, in the meantime i will look into the issue of the mac discs working on a ???... sorry what system are or would you be trying to make it work on ? xp, vista ........ if you had a wireless card you wouldnt need the internal card in , but it wouldnt make a difference either in or out Last edited by fixit; 2 Weeks Ago at 08:59 PM.
