After a bit of searching the net, it seems like a lot of people have problems like this (vista). But not a single forum has the solution for this problem. Some suggests a edit in the registry, but no luck with that.
No problem til map shares, no problem til browse the content, but the whole windows hangs if I try to open or copy/paste.
My hair is almost gone, this problem is driving me mad.

If you look at this page there are some setting to try like
Allowing new wireless Allow multicast from Broadband Network: You say Vista work with cable but cant connect to the shares how are you trying to connect to these shares via a browse.Ip map a drive and what error message do you get. If we could get it working via cable first and then move onto wireless. How is the share set up in terms of permisions? Can you ftp from Vista? |

Allow multicast from Broadband Network did not work.
There is no problem to map a drive. I don't get any error messages at all. All shares is open, with all rights, to everyone. There is no problem using ftp. I use it all the time uploading content to a web page. On 'My Computer', under 'Network folders' (?), i double click the one called 'photo (\\10.0.0.5)' I have put one photo in that folder from a pc using cable. If i click on the photo file, the mouse pointer turns into this "loading wheel", and the title bar says "photo (\\10.0.0.5) ( W: ) (Not responding). If I double click the photo, the folder says 'no files' when it's done hanging. If I one click the photo, the folder still has the image file when it's done hanging, but ofcourse nothing has happened. |

I'm not familiar with Samba, but when i try what the suggest in the first link you gave (run: secpol.msc), it says that it can't find the file.
From samba.org it stands that "Since 1992, Samba has provided secure, stable and fast file and print services for all clients using the SMB/CIFS protocol". On the specs for the NSA online it says: "Network Files Sharing Protocol: Microsoft Network (CIFS/SMB), File Transfer Protocol (FTP, max connections 64), HTTP". I really hope this is it. Try this see if it solves it
Step One --------------------------------- Maybe turning off auto-tuning on the Vista client may help. Please run the following commands: 1. Click Start, type: "CMD" (without quotation) in the Start Search bar 2. Right click Command Prompt in the search list and click Run as Administrator 3. Type the following command and press Enter: netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled and reboot Related Articles: 934430: Network connectivity may fail when you try to use Windows Vista behind a firewall device Network connectivity fails when you try to use Windows Vista behind a firewall device 555912: Windows 2003 service pack 2 known issues on Small Business Server 2003 Windows 2003 service pack 2 known issues on Small Business Server 2003 Step Two --------------------------------- NOTE: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows.
