I have a Sierra Wireless 3G USB modem plugged into a desktop computer. I have a Belkin Wireless G Plus router that is connected to the desktop computer through the built in ethernet, I want to use the router so my laptop can get internet wirelessly. The laptop can see the router, but there is no internet available. The router does not connect to the internet through the shared connection. Any ideas?? I'm lost. Thanks.

In general the connection usually goes something like this. The modem receives its signal from the internet provider (via cable, dial-up, or mobile). The modem then sends its signal directly to the router. The router then then broadcasts the signal wirelessly and/or by ethernet to connected PC's. If your router has a USB port for the incoming signal try connecting your modem directly to the router. If there is no USB, then you might have to buy a router designed to do this. There might be such a thing as a USB to ethernet converter to allow you to connect to this router.

I have heard of people using a USB modem, plugged into the USB port of the computer and then a router plugged into the Ethernet port of the computer and then bridging the connections to get the router to broadcast internet. Does this sound like it might/should work?

You might want to try looking at this ( Configuring Windows XP as a Network Bridge ). It might be your solution. It's old, but who knows!
