Default iusse that don't go with the line of networking

the issue i am having is i just got a hp 6710b labtop.

i am run dlink dl-624 wireless router and dlink df-200 router. i have the dl-624 acting like a ap.

the issue is when i connect to the dl-624 with the wireless the df-200 give me a ip thought dhcp but when i try to ping the df-200 i just times out. after change firewall setting after firewall setting i started to work. that was right after i pinged the laptop from the router. the after an hour or so it stoped working. the issue that i am having is the laptop cannot see the df-200 at all but the df-200 can see the laptop.

the thing that make this issue so hard to fix is because when i am in hard wired in the dl-624 it work just fine. the thing we are limited it down to is the hp wlan assistant but i can't turn it off and have the wireless working that the same time.

Hey westsidewade, welcome to PCHF.

The problem your experiencing is most likely because both routers will have the same IP address. You can't have two devices on the network sharing the same IP, and the IP is rarely configurable on these routers. Suggest sticking to one router that works.

the same answer i gave. but the ip address on the di-624 is 192.168.30.2
and the df-200 is 192.168.30.3.

OK, sorry wade, just having trouble figuring out exactly what your trying to do here. Is your only problem that you cannot ping the DF200? Remember that this router has it's own firewall as well - ensure ICMP traffic is allowed.

Or are you looking at disabling the wlan assistant? If you do this you won't have control of your wireless devices, but you can do this by going to Start, Run and type in msconfig. Click on the Startup tab and uncheck the assistant to stop it from starting up.

Why are the two routers on the network? Only the DF200 is a DHCP server right?

yeah the issue is the computer can't see the df200 when connected with wireless. when the computer is hard wired it can ping the df200 and get tcp traffic all day. we did have some hope right after we pinged the labtop from the df200. it worked for an hour. and yes the df200 is the dhcp server.

ahh, ok, I'm beggining to understand.

When your up and running, please can you:
- go to Start, Run and type in cmd
- From the command window, type in ipconfig /all
- Right click on the title bar, and go edit Edit, followed by Select All
- Right click again and go to Edit, followed by Copy
- Paste the results back here.

Do the same thing when you lose connection, and see what the difference is. I suspect you may be only receiving a one hour lease from the DHCP server.
