Default linksys router and adapter concetivity

my daughter got satellite for her internet, and has a linksys wrg54t, or something like that. I bought a wusb100 a couple months ago. I have yet to connect with any signal and have posted at the linksys forum. I have uninstalled, reinstalled so many times i am on connection #10. Shes on wpa and I have the info to connect via her passwords. She also did change the channel to 11. I've set it up to work via windows which was recommended. My signal strength is anywhere from 9-26, but then is lost. The distance between the router and my adapter is less than 140', with a sliding glass door and a window as whats in between. We've had tech support with each hardware and they seem to think everything is fine. Can anyone think of why I am having this issue? Its been too long and can't take back the adapter. Both of us are wireless inept, and we know no one else to help. We also have taken my brothers laptop over there, and he cannot connect. My daughter did bring her laptop here and she had a great connection. I do have a 1.0 usb on this computer, but did install linksys on a 2.0 that I am going to use in a few days. I'm tired, frustrated, and have a migraine from trying to connect wireless. help?

If all your hardware checks out then it must come down to the distance to the router. Try moving the laptop nearer to the router then gradually further away..checking where the signal weakens. Maybe consider a high gain antenna, omni boost aerial or a wireless access point at the mid point between the router and the laptop.
