Default Cannot connect to network

Hey all,
One of my desktops refuses to connect to my wireless network after I formatted it. I'm sure the network information I've entered is all present and correct but still no joy. I used the IP Config feature on this PC to gain the IP, subnet mask, and default gateway details so I could enter them onto my other desktop. I selected the 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)' option and entered the details manually. It has the exact same IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and DNS servers of this PC yet it still refuses to connect.

My gateway's (Linksys WAG200G) details are fine as far as I can tell so it's clearly me making the mistake. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Thanks

Edit: Just tried the 'IPconfig /all' command to see what extra information it gave, the first thing that came up was this:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix.:........ (nothing there)
IP Address..........:0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask..........:0.0.0.0
Default Gateway...........: (nothing there)

Hello Satyricon welcome to PCHF.

Not my expertise but I'll try and help.

You say you just formatted so it might be a good idea to check device manager and make sure there are no yellow question marks in there that could give a clue.

Is your home network secured?

Did you run the driver installation disk that goes with your wireless card?

Hi Lonewolf,

I don't use a wireless card, instead I have a USB dongle, I've installed all the drivers for the dongle and the software that comes with it tells me I'm connected (so does Windows) yet I'm not. As for the device manager I have 2 yellow question marks by the PCI Modem and Ethernet Controller.

Hello Satyricon.

That sure looks to me as if there are some drivers missing yet.

Since you reformatted you have to reinstall the drivers that come with the motherboard CD and if you don't have that then you would need to go to the manufacturers website and download the latest drivers for your motherboard.

If you don't know what make/model your motherboard is then install Belarc Advisor (click on link in my sig below) and it will tell you.

Often times the drivers on the motherboard CD are outdated anyway so it's not a bad idea to get the latest ones from the manufacturer.

If you have any trouble or would like me to help then post your motherboard make and model and I'll do a search.

Hi,

I downloaded the Belarc Advisor and ran it, with the information provided I went to the Dell site and scrolled through the upgrades, problem is I'm not sure which one I need, there's a mammoth list of all sorts with none of them being clearly marked as an ethernet or PCI modem driver. I took a screenshot of the two sections and am hoping you could tell me which one would be of relevance?
