Did you check in device manager to see if those yellow question marks are gone now?

Also I need to know if you installed all those drivers or just the network one?

I noticed right above the network one they also offered a diagnostic utility which might be of some use.

See when you reformat you wiped the slate clean so to speak and every driver that machine had when it was new needs to be installed again.

They'll work after a reformat but with limited functionality if items are missing.

Chipset drivers are important too if you didn't do those.

Another important tip is on that same Dell page where the drivers are if you look at the left side of the listed item opposite the download link you can click on the item and it will open a window with more info pertaining to that driver as well as installation instructions.

It's always good to review those as well since sometimes things need to be done in a certain sequence.
Hi,
All the yellow question marks are gone and yes I installed literally every driver you linked me too, the diagnostic tool just tells me I can't connect (which is more than Windows does ) to the net. Thanks for your help with the drivers LF.

OK the question marks gone is a good thing especially since it involved ethernet controllers which directly affect the issue.

Now with this machine do you have any connectivity at all?

Like is it just the home network you're unable to connect to and the internet works or you have nothing at all?

Since you mentioned the router I'm assuming nothing at all which means we can't do windows updates.

I haven't used a dongle before but if it's anything like the wireless cards I have in a couple of my boxes the utility they use simply sees available networks and to connect all I really have to do is know the WEP key since I have them locked down and secured.

I never had to enter any addresses or anything like that.

Wouldn't hurt to go into My Network Places and right click the connection, make sure it's enabled and try using the repair function.

I'd also try to leave the connection automatic.

Definitely automatic, you mentioned in your first post Sat that you manually configured your ip address to match this PC. Different IP address I hope? otherwise it will conflict with this PC.

Also, what are you using to connect to your router in terms of software, Windows Wireless or the Dell Wireless Utility? If your using the Dell drivers, then it normally comes with the Dell Wireless Utility. If so, then these should be used over Windows. The icon can be found in your system tray, and is signified by 4 bars (signal strength) like you would see on a mobile phone.

Hi Mad,
The IP address on the second PC is different, I'm 101 and it's 102. I'm letting Windows configure my wireless settings (which I must add is useless). On top of that I have the software that comes with the dongle telling me all sorts, I don't think it conflicts as their both useless. Windows does seem to think I'm connected when I'm clearly not.

Hey Sat, when it shows as connected, can you:

- Can you go to Start, Run, and type in cmd
- From the command window, type in ipconfig /all
-
Right click on the titlebar, and go to Edit followed by Select All.
-
Go to Edit again, followed by Copy.
- Paste the results back here.

Also, just to double back a little bit. The Dimention 2400 doesn't ordinarily come with wireless capability, nor can I see any on the Dell web link posted earlier. The communications driver is for your modem, and the Network driver is for your integrated Nic ethernet card. Is it an external USB wireless device?

Thanks Sat.

Your with Opal Telecom right?

Can you go back to the command prompt, and type in ping 192.168.1.1 and tell me if you get a reply or a time out?
