Default 1 PC will not now connect to internet.

Hi, I am new here so apologies if I am not in the right place. At home we have 3 computers and a Belkin wireless router. All was fine until about a week ago when one computer suddenly stopped connecting to the internet although apparently the signal strength is excellent. (This PC sits right beside the router. ) The other 2 pc's in other parts of the house still connect up fine. I tried a system restore but it said it couldn't do it (I think). I have no idea what to do now. The operating system is Vista Basic. In the taskbar there is a yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark over the pc icons. When windows tries to analyse the problem, it comes back saying that the PC is connected to the router but there is no internet connection.....but there must be, as the other 2 PC's can get an internet connection. Can anyone help me please?
Thankyou
fi

Hey Fionna,

A personal welcome to PCHF from me as well.

Is the PC behaving oddly in any other way that you have noticed? Would you be able to go to PreWork in my signature from one of the other PCs, and download the listed programs, burn the .exe files to a CD, or copy to a stick drive, and then install them onto the troubled PC? I would also need you to follow the remainder of the instructions listed in PreWork.

If you can do that, then burn the logs onto a CD, or move them onto a stick drive to post back here?

We can determine if the trouble is being caused by a malware infection, an better know how to proceed.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hello and thank-you for your message. I need to tell you of a surprise development last night!!!! My daughter was installing a programme on the troubled PC.........and then came and told me that she had managed to access the internet from it..........as I am doing now............but there are definite weird things happening ....... it takes ages to actually do anything........I mean you could really go and hoover the house in the time it takes to start up now. As far as I can make out, the installation of the programme wasn't happening........she'd waited a good 20 mins for it to install........then there came a message that (and this is where I fall down on the info.) .........it couldn't install because of ' ' and in order to complete the installation we had to agree to this other one being re-installed next time it was to be used........it was something beginning with Syn........I think??????????? Anyway, it is now connecting to the internet.........but I don't know why it is and why it was not before.....also.......something else that didn't used to happen.........every time you try and send an email or anything you get a message to say that you have an unencrypted connection and have to click 'continue' to send it.........sorry this is too long and too warbly.........I am just really confused now that the connection is back randomly after 2 weeks...........should I still do the prework thing??????????????????????
Thanks and sorry
Fionna

Hi Fionna,

You most definitely need to do the PreWork. I apologize for having taken so long to get back to you. I had a project in my real life that took up the last couple of days.

I think that not only have you been infected, but you may have become more infected with the program that your daughter was trying to install.

Please try to get that done as soon as you can. I would hate for you to lose any important data or pictures or anything to infection damage.

We have a wonderful tech team, I know that they will have you cleaned up and running properly in no time.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN
