Default Laptops Wireless NIC not working

Hey, a mates asked me to fix his Wireless NIC card, it'll work connected with an RJ 45 cable, I've tried updating the drivers, checked the services and stopping and starting Wireless Network zone, I also manually entered the settings, if I add an RJ 45 cable it connects straight away, the network cards in the right place in Device manager and is a Intel Pro/wireless 2200GB.
it's running XP pro and has never been online wirelessly.
