Default Repeatly inserting WEP key!

I'm having problems storing the network key to my laptop. Everytime I boot my laptap, I have to put in my network key when it should store it. I went in to my settings and configured wireless settings to connect to the network when this network connection is availbale. It does it at another place that I go to often where I don't have to put in the key everytime I boot my laptop, it does it automaticly. So could someone tell me what I'm doing or not doing? Thanks!

Sorry i don't know much at all with wireless as i'm in a kinda same situation but cant get internet working.

What adapter do you have for wireless ? Also, does your wireless adapter come with it's own software and so you do not need to use windows pre built in wzc.

When you got your adapter did you put in the cd that came with it first and did you install the drivers?

One more, please go to start > right click my computer > click manage > device manager. Look for you wireless driver or any drivers there that have a yellow exclamation mark beside it ( " ! " ).

please list the ones that have the yellow thing beside it. Thanks

( if i was no help sorry. You will then need to wait for an expert to reply

Hi,

First go to Start>Run and type services.msc

Check down near the bottom for Wireless zero configuration service and make sure its is started and set to automatic (comes on when windows starts) (I assume u r on XP?)

then go to control panel>Network Connections

then right click the wireless connection and go to "view available wireless networks"

on the left click "change the order of preferred networks"

in the box that comes up delete any other wireless access points/networks that you are never going to use (ie not yours!)

if yours isnt in the list, go to "add" or something similar.

Make sure that you select "open" and WEP if thats what you want,

Finally enter your WEP for hopefully the last 2 times and you're done. I find XP only "remembers" WEPs this way.

I forgot to mention that if anyone reading that last response has NOT got a built in adapter, when you install the software for the adapter you may stop XP's own wireless configuration service from running, so it's best to try and install drivers only in that specific case and not the adapters "wireless utility".
