Question Want a wireless network, but not sure what I need

I would like to set up a wireless network in my house. I only have one computer, a laptop. Not sure what I need to buy. Do I just need a wireless router? Or would I also need a usb/card for the thing to work?

I have win xp sp3. I currently have cable internet using a basic cable modem. I have used my laptop for other wireless connections like at the hospital and coffee shop and it worked great.

So, my question, if I wanted to go with Linksys, would the Linksys "wireless and home" router be okay without having to purchase a pc card/usb plug?

Thank you for your recommendation.

Hi Jerry,

Seeing as you have used your laptop on wireless already then yes, a wireless router would be a great start. You DO NOT need ADSL capability as your cable modem will connect to the router via Ethernet(if you have it) and some newer routers come with USB connections also. I personally like Linksys and would recommend a Linksys router for the home.

Hi,

Well you said you've got wireless built in your laptop so you'll need a few things including a Wireless Router. What I recommend is, check out Orange Broadband (or any ISP) and look for some sort of Wireless 'starter package' it may be abit more costly, but you'll get installation or really good instructions, and a Router, and then of course all the filters, and cables etc. Least this way you know you've got everything you need! Hope this helps.

check out Orange Broadband (or any ISP)
I wouldn't go for Orange as their Livebox's are generally a pain in the neck to connect any games consoles to (Thats if Jerry has any).
