Question Wireless Connection Problems

I recently bought a new laptop, to replace my old desktop computer. My sister is now using the desktop, so I bought a TP-LINK router to split the internet so I can browse wirelessly. Problem is, my wireless connection constantly gets disconnected. The wireless signal is usually Excellent or Good, but for some reason I have periodic disconnections. They can last 5 seconds up to several hours randomly. I have a connection encryption, and I have no other devices connecting to the router wirelessly (the desktop is connected through an Ethernet cable). I have no idea what to do now, it can get really annoying and I don't believe it should disconnect like that. I'll post any necessary information on request. Thank you all in advance =]

Default Re: Wireless Connection Problems

Hi dokueki - Welcome to PCHF!

Are there any other wireless networks in range when you look at Available Wireless Networks or Manage Wireless Networks?

If so they could be running on the same channel as yours and interfering with your connection. You will need to connect to the router by ethernet cable and go into the wireless settings section for it. Try changing the channel it operates on. E.g. if it's currently on Channel 1 - try changing it to Channel 6 or 11.

See if this helps your wireless connection. Please post back if you still get problems.

Default Re: Wireless Connection Problems

The channel changing seems to be disabled for me at the moment. The selection dropdown box is set on 6 and is disabled for changing.
Also, I just noticed this in the sidebar help:
Note: Some regions such as Israel may not use 108Mbps Mode since the operation for the wireless interface in 108Mbps Mode is illegal.
Think that has something to do with this?

Edit: I just noticed that after changing the dropdown below the channel from 108Mbps (Dynamic) to 54Mbps (802.11g) let me change the channel. I'll change it to 11 and wait a day or two to see how my connection takes it. I'll come back with a report on it. Thank you very much =]
