Post Bridged G router Extended Issues

Have a belkin G Router and belkin Range Extender.
Have a Zoomx6 Adsl Router.
I want to extend the Range of my Network.
Purchased the Belkin Range extender to find its Uncompatible with my Origianal Router. and my knoledge of networking is too limited to config it on the right channel also Cant access the Interface to change the channel And IP.

Purchased a Belkin G Router(without modem) for connecting to one of the back ethernet sockets on my Zoomadsl Router that connects to phone line. thus sending wifi too my Range Extender and increasing the range of my Network on a seperate channel.

Q. How/why/will this work? is this link between my base zoom router and my belkin G router called a bridge? Do i need to setup a static Ip?
What is a static Ip??

any advice/help would be greatly appreciated

You shouldn't need to setup a static ip. Please post back with the model number of the Belkin and I will be able to help you better.

Generally to get it setup initially you need to do the following:

First using connect PC to Zoom by Ethernet cable. Disable the wireless feature.

Next connect an ethernet cable from the Zoom into the WAN port on the Belkin and connect your pc to the Belkin via ethernet cable.

Power off the Zoom, Belkin and PC.

Power on the Zoom - wait until it has finished booting,
Power on the Belkin. when lights show it's connected, turn on the PC

Test if you have internet connectivity.

Once you post back with model number of the Belkin I will be able to give you more detailed setup instructions and help you get it connected if the above didn't work.

Hi, so thanks for your help.

I followd the instructions and got it all going fine.
I went and Tryed to secure the Belkin with Wep but i didnt take it and think i bricked the Router.
So with nothing too loose Opened it Up fiddled round inside and Eventullly got her back up and transmitting, [Some Duck tape Later]

No i have been trying to get too connect to my Belkin Range Extender.
I followed the Included instructions too the T and it worked for about 15secs Boosting my signal from 40 to 75/80% which was great while it worked. I now have Limited connectivity on this network.

entered the WRE/AP Mac address into the Belkin G Routers 'Wireless Bridgeing' Interface as AP1

Ok, so do i enter the Belkin Router's WRE/AP mac Address into the Range Extender? and would this be AP1 (dosent make sense to me)
Is there another setting i have overlooked? same Firmware maby?

Is this an IP conflict? How do i fix it if so?

so many questions lol

Also should i have the Protected mode enabled and does QOS need to be on on both devices?

Btw i had to remove the Reset on the Router.

Thanks alot buddie

OK - First get the Belkin Wireless G working with security enabled. WEP or WPA (WPA is better). Once it's working and you can connect to it wirelessly from your pc do the following.

Connect to the Range Extender from your PC. Change your IP address on your wireless connection to one in the same range as the extender. E.G. 192.168.2.15 the subnet mask should autocomplete if it doesn't make it 192.168.2.254
Open your web browser > type: 192.168.2.254
This will connect you to the setup page for the range extender. If you can't connect because you've already changed settings on it then reset it and try to connect again.

In the configuration utility, Click Basic. Set it up as follows:

Wireless Channel - Auto
SSID - Make sure it is the same as Wireless SSID
Wireless Mode - Leave as is
Broadcast SSID - Leave as is
Preamble - Leave as is
Protected Mode - Leave set to off
Repeater / AP Mode - Make sure it is set to repeater mode
Parent AP SSID - Click the site survey button - choose your Belkin Wireless Router from the list - click connect.

It should connect and everything should work. Otherwise disable security on the router > connect the range extender as per above, then re-enable security on the router. The settings should transfer automatically to the extender.

Now back on your pc set your IP address back to obtain IP automatically for your wireless connection.. Test wireless connection and coverage.

Please post back if it still doesn't work.

Thanks ever so much for your help.

I tryed all of the following multiple times.

So look my Router to bits today and soldered on a Super 20Db Gain antenna Which increase my signal by almost none however i loose less Packets which i'd like to think was worth the effort and frustration of butchering it and soldering. LOL

I have Tested the extender/Ap as a hardwired access point and it works fine connecting no problem.

Why wont this thing find my router!!! Grrrr
I havent got a site survey option in the interface, i've used inssider and found it the router.
So..

They share the same channel
they have the same subnet
the wireless mac address is into Ap1 on the Routers interface>wireless bridge
it can connect to the Router when via an ethernet.
Resetting doesnt Solve anything.

Please if any one can help me here i would be soo Greatfull.

Do you have the Router running as an access point? If so this is where the IP conflict would be coming in.

Please do the following on the router:
In Wireless Settings
Change the SSID to teknohome
MAke SSID broadcast is Enabled
Leave wireless mode as default
Leave channel as 6 unless you have problems

Under the Use as Access Point make sure it is set to disabled.

Check the routers IP address under Lan Settings - Make sure it is set to 192.168.2.1

Make sure Range Extender's MAC address is entered under AP1 on Wireless Bridge.

On the Range Extender - setup as per my instructions in my last post. Make sure it's IP address is 192.168.2.254
Make sure the Range extenders SSID is Identical to the Routers e.g. Teknohome.

If it still doesn't work - try using Access Point mode on the Range Extender.

Also make sure you have disabled Wireless on the Zoom.

If all this fails then I would call Belkin's Technical Support and get them to help you set it up. UK Support Number is 0845 607 7787

If you do call them - don't tell them you pulled apart the Router - just ask them to help you get it connected.
