Smile Linksys WRT54G-v6 Wireless Router, No RF Signal Output

The subject router has lost the RF output signal. Some observations:

  • My desktop PC cabled to router works OK.
  • My laptop sees other wireless networks in the area but not my router.
  • My wifi sniffer/locator does not detect a signal, even when I hold it next to the router.
  • I've tried disconnecting the power to the cable modem and router for 30 sec's, and restart modem/router, without success.
  • Led lights on both the router and modem look normal.

Any thoughts? Is this router dead?
Cheers,
Jim

Have you tried going through the setup proceedure as if it was a new install??

I have the exact same router (including revision #), and mine wouldn't work one day after I fired up my system. Nothing I tried worked until I just started over from scratch. It's been fine ever since.

Thanks Guys,

I may have stumbled upon the solution.....at least it's working for now. I changed the channel in the Linksys setup utility from channel-6 to channel-1, and whalah....it works. Both the sniffer and my laptop can see the router. Any idea what may have gone wrong (other than channel died)? Hope channel-1 holds.
Thanks, and Cheers!
Jim

It would appear that there was interference from a certain object. This could be anything from a cordless phone or even a microwave.

Interesting...interference??? So why do you suppose the sniffer failed to detect a signal, 2cm from the router? Also, I've had the router in the same location for over a year, and no new appliances or wireless devices.

I'm thinking that it's internal on the router, but I could be wrong. I've had the firmware crash on this router about 6 mo.s ago and had to reburn. Strange things go in inside that little blue box.

Thanks guys.
Cheers,
Jim
