Default [Resolved] My Parents need some router help.

Hey guys, I don't know much about wireless routers so I haven't been able to help my parents, so I thought maybe you guys could help.

So here's the problem. My parents have Wildblue high speed satellite internet. They had a Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO Router and it was working fine providing interent to their desktop (wired) and wireless to their laptop. One day they left their home and there was a storm (not sure if the storm had anything to do with the problem) and when they returned suddenly their internet wasn't working (it wouldn't connect to any websites). So they went and bought a new router (exactly the same) and connected it and it is still kinda doing the same thing. If you directly connect both the laptop and the desktop straight to the satellite reciever, the interent works perfectly, ruling out the satellite being mess up. But if you connect everthing through the router, here's the weird part, at times the interent will work, but then other times it won't work. If it does work, it is usually really slow and most all times it will just stop downloading all together. I have tried restarting the router, updating the firmware, reinstalling the router and that's pretty much all I can figure out. If you guys could help my parents out I would greatly appreciate it!

Hey Jedi,

Is the wireless router secured. E.g. WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK. If WEP is being used try changing to WPA or WPA2. Also if possible you want WPA2-PSK with AES.

Have you tried replacing the ethernet cable between the modem and the router?

If you have tried the above and the speed is still slow or the connection is still dropping out post back.

Sorry this is late ... I've been working and haven't had a chance to post. We did try different ethernet cables with no success. I just talked to my parents today and they took the Belkin router back and bought a different brand (they didn't tell me what kind). So I guess we'll wait and see if that helps. If I doesn't help, I'll post back. Thanks again!
