Default [Resolved] Lost Wireless Connection.

I have an Equium L40-156 running Vista and the wireless connection became intermittent. The light next to the switch would go out or perhaps not come on at all at startup. In the end, I did a complete system recovery from scratch and installed the latest wireless drivers (from Realtek). This seemed to cure the problem and it has been fine for the past 2 months. However, the light has now gone out again (it was working an hour ago) and there is no wireless connection.

I have tried a system restore and also installed the latest driver from Toshiba, but I still can't get it working. I'm reluctant to start from scratch again as it takes all day to load the programs and updates. Can anyone suggest anything I can do or is it another Vista bug?

Hello diesel,

Well there are two sides of the coin.

On one side, your router should never switch off it's wireless connection no matter what state your PC is at. Re-installing your OS will not affect the router in any way, they are two completely seperate entities.

On the other side, certain software such as torrents as well as virus's and malware can use up all of your bandwidth. Certain routers do not handle this very well, and as soon as a packet of data is lost as a result of too much data, it will simply drop the connection.

What router do you have and are you running such software on your PC?

Update -
I've done a couple of things and it is now working, although I'm not sure why.

1 - Loaded an earlier version of the wireless network adaptor driver.
2 - Unticked the Power management check box that allows the computer to shut down the connection to save power.

Thanks.
