hi, my sis' boyfriend asked me to help him set up his wireless adapter to connect his xbox360 to his wireless router. first off i found out the wpa key of his dad ( big businessman ) then went through xbox process of connecting to wireless network - it didnt work. i knew it was the wireless security stopping me.

i went on my sis' boyfriend pc (connects wirlessly and has access to internet) in his room. i typed ip address into explorer. entered info to get into router settings and turned of all security to wirless - xbox live worked.

I was about to go and i so wish i ahd but i thought i better put some sort of security on the router or hsi dad mite go mad. so i thought maybe wpa soesnt work wiv xbox so i went into router settings again and changed the security type to wep. i then made my own key up a bunch of letters A-F and numbers 0-9 but i didnt write it down because i thought wen i pressed submit i wud still have access to the router settings and be able to look it up. as soon as i submitted, internet explorer showed page not found and a bubble popped up saying connection lost.

Now i started about fixing my stupid error. i cud no longer get into router settings so i used the utility in the quick launch which only allowed me to connect and disconnect from the wireless network and there was alos a button for encryption. after pressing this all i was able to do was change back to default wpa - which still doesnt make the internet work. at some point a message popped up basically saying do you want router to reset/forget connection to this computer - as htis was the only option i did. then it told me to activate primary mode in access point. i worked using the internet at home that you do this by holding number 1 on the router ect. but the business man was downloading summit so im gonna have to leave it till tomorrow :-s

im actually really surprised business man still had a connection to the internet. can any1 confirm watever i did wont effect his comp ( which will make me feel a lot better ) or can any1 tell me what to expect tomrrow. what im gonna try is activating primary mode in access point (im guesing by holding the 1 button on the router) and connecting my sis' boyfriends pc at the same time then the wpa i think will go back to default then everything will be hunkydory= his pc will have internet an so will business mans

Please help and opinions would really be appreciated and may help me sleep 2nite! thanks

If you have the WPA key then why don't you connect to the router via an ethernet cable, check that the WPA key is entered as it should be and save it. If you haven't changed anything on the "Dads" PC then it will still retain the original (correct) WPA key and should still work as it did before.

he has no cable just a wireless adapter so it has to be wiress, remember also that his pc interenet is not working now. thanks for the reply btw
