Default Cannot Connect Via Wi-fi

I have a Netgear WGT624 v2, 108Mbps, I've been using 2 1/2 years to connect my two desktops. I have also used it with an old laptop and Belkin wi-fi card.

Last week I bought a Dell Inspiron 1501 with Vista and built-in wi-fi and it will not connect to my router. When I follow the wizard, I get the error message "Wireless association failed because Windows did not receive any response from the wireless router access point."

The Inspiron wireless card is a Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini Card (54 Mbps).

I emailed Netgear but all they ever sent me was two computer-generated generic emails promising to get back to me.

I contacted Dell and they sent me links to update my drivers and another link to the wizard I had already tried. Then they said try contacting Netgear.

Does anyone have a suggestion? I even thought of taking the laptop to a hotspot somewhere and trying to set up the connection that way!

Red face Re: Cannot Connect Via Wi-fi

You may try the below two links. It may help you, but all I know is I know only a small amount about Vista, & what I do know is it has all kinds of 'issues'. See these threads & try what's there & hopefully it will fix your problem.

Default Re: Cannot Connect Via Wi-fi

On Saturday morning I again tried to set up the wi-fi connection via Netgear, but it didn't work. I saw Linksys on the list and tried that, and it worked! I still haven't figured out why, since I have Netgear router.

It worked fine all weekend, but this morning while I was online I suddenly lost the connection and can't get it back, even though the wizard says I am connected via Linksys. I cannot get online again.

Netgear, of course, never responded to my request for help.
