Default [Pending] Making AOL wireless? simple question.

Hi all,

I've just moved back in with my mother and am leaving behind my home network she has basic aol broadband on a usb speedtouch modem straight into the pc.

I am setting up my pc in my room i plan to replace the usb modem with a wireless modem router, so that it can always be on and i don't have to traverse the whole house and switch on her pc to get internet in my room.

My question is; can i do this by buying any old wireless modem router and asking aol for the connection details then use that as i have done in other installations?

or will it be the case they insist i use their hardware and their software (frankly appauling in my view)

kind regards, James

Hi there, yes you can buy a wireless router, but make sure it has a modem built in an is ADSL. As far as your login goes its screenname@aol.com and then put in your password and you be set to go.

i think you slightly mis understand my question, i want to do it using the modem router as stand alone, i'll need the connection settings etc from aol, will they give them to me?

i'm considering changing her to there wireless package..

just got off the phone, saved £2 a month getting free wifi modem router and speed increase from 1mb to upto8mb... see how this goes
