Lynn - I don't know the DLink router in question but google advises it is wireless capable.

So first things first - is the wireless configured and enabled? Usually you connect via a web browser to the router - dlink typically use 192.168.1.1 as a default so you'd http://192.168.1.a from the main PC. Then login (user id and p/wd are default to 'admin' 'admin') and find the wireless setup tab. It doesn't look like the router has a staus light for the wireless unfortunately so that won't help in knowing if it is on or off.

Once configured and enabled at the router end, you need to match that config on the PC / laptop end. Again google tells me that laptop has built-in wireless but I can't see if there is a button (as per my laptop) to turn on/off the wireless hardware.

Have a potch around and see what you can find out and come back. Then we can discuss how to's of configuring - as in use WPA and never touch WEP if you can.

The laptop is 802.11g compliant which is one of the modes supported by the router.

OK - non techy as best I can.

Open up a command window - START - RUN - type in CMD , click OK.
In the black box that opens up type IPCONFIG.

Note down the numbers that are the IP and Default Gateway. Likely to start 192.168.x.y

Now open up a browser session and in the address bar type in the numbers that were the default gateway and press enter.

You will likely come to a login page - I can't help anymore with this one

Find the setup page/s and specifically look for the wireless setup and report the details back - or get your sister to do a screen dump. If needs be attach that screen dump to this thread.

Then we can talk some more ...
