i have a belkin adapter and a netgear router, i installed the aol software and reached the point where it lets you choose your adapter, mine wasn't there and so i was told to manually make the belkin detect the router but it just won't detect it. i can still connect to the internet using the wire, just not wirelessly. i understand that belkins are notoriously hard work with aol, but i can't find a straight answer about what to do. i'm really stuck and would appreciate the help, cheers
Hi lukeanducy, welcome to PCHF, unfortunatly the problem that you describe is not in my area of expertise, however i do apologise and will notify a tech immediately
It sounds like you have had problems installing the belkin onto your laptop in the first place. Can we first confirm that the Belkin adaptor is installed an working. You should be able to see this if you go to My Computer, Control Panel, System, Hardware tab, Device Manager. You should see your Belkin wireless adaptor under the category of "Network Adaptors", with no exclaimation marks against it. When you right click on this device an go to Properties, you should see "This device is working properly" under Device Status.
this might sound stupid but have you made sure the laptop adapter is turned on?
did this for a freind and it was just a matter of flicking a switch on the side of the laptop
Hi Luke, check the security settings on your router. Try removing any security on the router to make sure that it is not hidden. To access your router page (whilst you are connected via a network cable), go to Internet Explorer, and type in 192.168.0.1, or sometimes the address maybe 192.168.1.1.
