Okay, the recommendation is to buy Linksys wireless gear. Should I consider getting the WRT54GS (speed booster) or WRT54GR (range booster)? I want to connect two computers that are around 150 feet apart. Yes, it seems the range booster would be the logical choice, but looking for your recommendations.

Hello Artlayton,

In your case, I would actually recommend a wireless N router and probably just stick with G adapters for your pooters. The N protocol is still compatible with G. 150 feet indoors is quite a distance for wireless. You would probably be best off with the expanded range of the 802.11N series routers. It doubles the average indoor distance.

Keeping your adapters as G adapters will save you a bit of $$, but you may still want to get N adapters to have an even better connection. If you stay with G adapters, you will still benefit by having additional range. I wouldn't be so concerned with the transfer rate because you will only really notice a difference if you send massive quantities of data across your home network. You won't see the difference while surfing the interwebs.

Here is a good link that might interest you - IEEE 802.11 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I would recommend the Linksys WRT300N model. It is about 130 bucks retail.

If you must stick with the G format, I would go with range booster cause again, you won't see a difference while surfing if you get one with a higher transfer rate, only if you send large amounts of data across your home network.

Hope that helps!
