Hello,
My friend has a wireless G network that consists of a desktop computer
in the basement (WinXP) and a desktop upstairs (WinXP). The cable modem is downstairs, so thats where we have the router. (Belkin wirelessG)
The PC in the downstairs has great reception but the desktop upstairs is in the far corner of the house and has very poor reception.
I tried different channels (1,6,11) and I tried setting long and Short preamble in the router config .
we even tried different wireless adapters (belkin, netgear)
No matter what we do this room always has poor reception. If we move the router we would have to drill holes everywhere
I was wondering if it would be possible to add a second router upstairs and use it as some type of
repeater?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Suggest you move the upstairs desktop into the same room as the router. This is just for test purposes. Set it up on the floor, if you need to. What kind of reception do you get now. It should be excellent. If it is still poor, then you either have a bad setup or bad hardware.
I pretty sure it's reception, because we tested it with 2 difference laptops and we got the exact same problem, great reception downstairs, poor upstairs.
