Default [Pending] new wireless router wont connect

hi all,

i have a friend who has a PC which is happily connected to the Net through an ADSL connection, he got a new ASUS Wireless ADSL Router (am604g) to hopefully connect up to his new lap top.

we have one stumbling block, we did it once but only once, which is connect to the router which should be done by typing in http://192.168.1.1 but it Will not do it, it wants to connect to the internet all the time which we havent been able to do yet, because we need to set up the router first.

any ideas anyone please !!!

tim

well, from the sounds of it what you want to try and do is to use the xp wireless network wizard, you should hopefully find the wireless network from the router, you can then try to put in that ip address into ie again,

hope this helps, sorry if i misunderstood

I know it sounds silly but all new laptops have an on/off switch/function for the wireless connectivity. Ensure it's turned on.

This I know as have spent some time trying to connect a laptop to the router with the wireless turned off!! and genuinely the cat had walked across the keyboard (Sony I think) & trod on the on/off switch

.

It seems i am confusing you all a bit, this trouble has nothing to with Wireless actually, it's just i couldnt find a better place to put this post.

So ignoring any reference to Wireless, it is theRouter itself that i cant get connected using a WIRED connection to a PC Tower. If I could only find out why i cant get the Router set up window in my Browser, i know the Wireless Lap Top will work OK.

first Hit Start, then Run, enter "cmd" then OK

A dos box will appear.

Enter "ipconfig" then Enter

Does the number 192.168.1.????? appear in the list.

If not what does appear?

(Just to make sure - you don't type the " )
