What do you mean by reloading them? Reinstalling? If so then yes I've reinstalled and updated. I have no problem connecting to the net when my computer is directly connected to the modem it's only when ANY router is connected.

Ok PlasticLipgloss... Have you tried to connect to the router while it was not connected to the modem? It is possible there is an IP conflict between the modem and router....also does your PC have a static IP or is it configured to let the router give it one...I'm going to assume the latter..

Good call there LC. Also Plasticlipgloss are you using a cable connection or an ADSL connection? Reason i ask is that with Cable connections in the Uk, you cannot buy routers with the modems built in for cable. What your need to do is power everything down, connect the modem to the router, using the WAN port if avaliable, then power the modem up, wait for the llights to settle, then power the router up and wait for the lights to settle, and then power the PC up. If its ADSL, you can buy routers with ADSL modems already built in. Again as above power everything down connect the router up, power on the router and wait for the lights to settle and then power on the PC.

Also if you can navigate to Control Panel, double click on System and then click on the Hardware Tab, and thewn Device Manager, look for your Network Card, is there a red cross or yellow exlamation mark beside it?

How can I tell if I have a connection to the router if the modem is not plugged in? Our modem is our Virgin Media Set Top Box and to turn off the modem completely it would have to be unplugged so no connection would be going through the router at all would it? Either way I did as you asked and the modem light was off on the router and the internet light was still flashing just as it had been the whole time i've not been able to connect with any router. No Matter which router I connect the internet light always flashes and I get no connection and can never access any of the routers main pages. I have tried powering up the router and the modem when the computer isn't even on.

I also tried powering it up the way you said and still no difference.

The pc is configured to let the router give it an IP. My ISP is Dynamic.

In device manager my network card is listed under network adaptors and there is no red x or yellow exclamation point next to it.
