Default [Fixed] Help Connect at home please

I've been using my notebook at work exclusively for the past 4 months and now want to use it at home too. I used to use it at home aswell as office about 6 months ago without any probs, however I now can't gain access to my home wireless router and although my notebook recognises that the router is there and the signal is excellent it pos up with the following message: ''The wireless adaptor failed to get a valid IP address. This can be due to an authentication failure with the network, incorrect wireless security passwords (encryption keys) or because of a DHCP server malfunction.''

Please can somebody help...my user name 'luddite' is so called for a reason!!

Thanks

Hi welcome to the forum the problem is most likely to be this

The wireless adapter failed to get a valid IP address. The wireless security password or encryption key does not match the one used by the access point. Other causes are: the wireless network requires a static IP address; there is a problem with the DHCP server; or, a general network problem.

To clear this message:
  • Reenter the wireless security password in the network security settings. See to Personal Security.
  • Restart the access point, router, computer, and DSL/cable modem.
  • Verify the security configuration on the access point or wireless router
