Default [Resolved] File Sharing

Hi

I recently setup a home network on my g/f's pc and another pc in the house. They both share the same printer so I know everything has been setup fine. I've also run the network wizard on both pc's. The only thing is I can't seem to setup file sharing between the two pc's. Both pc's are running on XP Home Edition. Anyone any ideas? Any advice is much appreciated.

Thx

Barry

Howdy Hybridtheory, And Welcome to PCHF glad ya found us.

Have you made sure the folders are set to shared? Right click them click properties go to sharing and make sure the tab make this folder private is not checked, also you have to drag the folders into your shared file folder

Hi

I've already set both folders on each pc to share. When I drag a file into the shared music folder on the main pc, the file doesn't show in the shared music folder on the other pc. Any other ideas?? Any advice is much appreciated.

Thx

Barry

In the folders properties at the bottom of the page does it say "windows firewall is configured to allow sharing of this foldder" ? could be a firewall issue.

I am not sure if XP Basic is like XP Pro, but we can try.
If you can do this, then I will have to turn you over to someone who knows XP Basic.

On the Desktop, Right click
Select Proprieties
Click on the Desktop tab
Click on Customize Desktop...
Under the General tab, at the top, click on the box titled "My Network Places" so there is a check mark in the box.
Click on OK to close the two windows.

This should put a "My Network Places" icon on your Desktop.
Double click on the "My Network Places" icon
Do this with both computers.

On both computers, take a snapshot with the "My Network Places" window open.
(Snapshot means press the "Prt Scr" key.)
Open the Paint program
Under the Edit menu, click on "Paste From..."
Save the file to your Desktop.
Again, do this on both computers.

On your reply message, if the attachment function is not visible click on the "Go Advanced" button. Attach the file from one of the computers. Submit the reply. Then, from the other computer, edit your message and attach the other file. As long as no one else replies to your reply, you will be able to edit the message. If someone does create a message on top of yours, just create a new reply message. I'll be able to sort it out either way.

Good Luck
