Default Wireless network sow internet problem

Hi there,

I have a standard netgear 54mbps g adsl router, on 8mb AOL broadband
I have one desktop, and 3 laptops running off of the router.
The desktop is always connected and is always fast (well, 3mb out of 8 aint bad)
Laptop 1 is used alot of the time, and always has around a 3mbps connection too.
Laptop 2 is used sometimes and has always taken a bit of time to respond, around 710kbps.
Laptop 3 is a brand spanking new Compaq F504EA which was purchased today, but the internet is incredibly slow on it, it runs at around 330kbps.

All comps are wireless to the router. I wonder if someone knows if i can normalize or make speeds a bit more equal on a wireless network?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I would set all the laptops and the router to transmit at G only. I've seen odd problems occur when wireless adapters/routers are set to transmit in multiple modes. That would be my first guess. Secondly, I would ask about the proximity to the router and if the router has some sort of expanded range like MIMO. If some of the units are further away and have weaker signals, upgrading to a MIMO Netgear router will help that.

My third guess is that you are a member of AOHELL....BOOO!!!!

...

Anyway, to switch the wireless adapters on the pooters to transmit/receive at G only, you need to go to network connections, then right click on your wireless adapter, then properties, then configure the wireless adapter, then click advanced tab, and look for something to the effect of wireless mode. Switch it to "G only" or "54G auto" or something to that effect.

To switch your router's transmit/receive mode, you need to login to the router and find where you can switch its wireless mode. Then switch that to G only.

Another thing to consider is malicious software. It only takes one website to mess things up.

Hope that helps!
