Default wireless router newbie

ive never used a wireless router before so i was wondering what all comes with the wireless router (i have a non wireless router but i just moved and my tv is far away from my pc now so wireless would be teh best option to avoid tripping over cords lol) would i have to buy anything extra other than teh router and (keep in mind i have no idea how a wireless router works) how do i hook it up to a playstation 2 when from what i see theres only a port for a broadband ethernet cord and a 56k phone line type cord wheer would teh part for teh wireless conection go and if i have to plug it into the ps2 how is it wireless? (im guessing i ts some kinda antenaa which has an ethernet type tip that you plug into the area youd usually plug and ethernet cord into) and if my gues is correct i have one pc and a ps2 to hook up (and teh cable modem) meaning id need 2-3 antennas? how many does the wireless rouer usually come with?

btw i just read a previous forum and to use wireless networking you need a wireles pci card or somethin like that.. is there something i can download or go to that weould show you my complete pc specs so you could tell me if i had the capibilities on this pc to use a wireless router... also is a playstation 2 networks card wireless compatible because ive heard of people using wireless routers with them and as far as i know theres nothing special about the ps2 modem that would make it a wireless modem

Hey antoinejones,

Unless your computer is wireless, you'll have to buy a wireless adapter to connect to the router (sometimes it can come with the router, but mine didn't, so..). To connect it to the PS2, you'll need an ethernet cable, which you will probably get with the router. You'll need to connect that from the router to the PS2. Aslong as you have a wireless computer or adapter, you'll be able to connect whatever PCs you have in the house to the router.

Hope this helps.

Default Wireless PS2

Wireless PS2 will be tricky, you'll need some sort of wireless to wired ethernet bridge such as a wireless PC/laptop that has an ethernet port which you can then bridge the wireless and the wired connections, if the PC is too far away from the PS2 the other alternatives are:

A Client mode wireless > ethernet bridge such as this
D-Link DWL-G810 802.11g Ethernet to Wireless

Or as i have done with my XBMC an old-ish linksys WRT wireless router (cheap as chips on ebay) reflashed with the OpenWRT firmware and set to client mode.

Hope this helps.
