Default [Resolved] Netgear Wireless - Suddenly not working

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I hope someone can help. This is driving me crazy!!!

OK, I woke up this morning and turned my PC on, suddenly it won't connect to the net. I have a netgear wireless router (ddg834gt) downstairs and my PC has a wireless netgear USB dongle.

Everything worked fine until this morning. When it didnt work I turned the router off and on again. This didn't work so I tried re-installing the Netgear software.

The PC detects that there is a connection to the router. However, since I re-installed the software Windows has decided to try to set up a wireless connection of it's own, which I cannot "delete". I beleive the two are conflicting - which Is why I cannot connect. Before this morning the only connection was via the Netgear software - not windows.

I have tried disabling the windows wireless connection, however - if i do this Netgear refuses to work. Is there a way to get rid of this, and if i Do will it solve the problem, or is there a way to configure the windows and netgear connections so it works?

Any ideas?? If anyone can shed some light on this it would be most appreciated.

Hello vaughan80,

Welcome to PCHF!

Can you access your Netgear router page?
Go to Internet Explorer, and use either the address 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1?

Hi,
I cannot access the router page. If i try to accesss it from the link on th CD rom, or type it in manually it still doesn't work.

Also, I forgot to add: I don't think it's the router. I can access the net on my girlfriends laptop (which is what I am typing on), which has an inbuilt wireless card, not a dongle. And my Xbox360 can access Xboxlive.

This is with the Wireless Connection in Windows enabled? (if not, can you enable and try again).

Has any security enabled on the router?

When you go into your Windows wireless connections, what do you see, does it show as "Connected" for your router:

Security is enabled on the router. When I initially set up the connection is prompted me to type in the password...
The last installation I made, I did type in the password I initially used. When I do this the Netgear software then says it's connected to the router. So regarding that everything seems ok.

In the wireless connection window is does display the netgear connection, and says it is enabled, and connected.

I have noticed since the last reboot of the machine the ip address has reset to 00 00 00 00 for some reason.
Not sure if thats a problem or not (if netgear blanks it). I have no idea about this sort of thing....

In the same section, you have a button that shows Disconnect at the bottom right hand corner. This is all you would need to do if you wanted to connect using your NetGear software instead.

I'm a bit concerned about your address being 0.0.0.0. When you establish a connection, you should pick up a 192.168.x.x address.

- Go to Start, Run and type cmd
- From the command window, type ipconfig /all
- Right click on the titlebar of the command window, and go to Edit, Select All.
- Right click on the titlebar of the command window, and go to Edit, Copy
- Then Paste the results back here.
