Are you sure you are still unable to access your router page 192.168.0.1?

The netgear router pages are different. Look for your wireless section and make sure this is enabled. Try to disable your security settings to see if you can then connect to your router page wirelessly..

Under status, by the sounds of it, it's showing as "Disconnected" or "Down", which means that your router is no longer connected to the internet.

The telephone wire that plug's into the router, can you plug a phone in to see if you get a dialtone? (If you get a dialtone, it doesn't necessarily mean broadband is working, but at least we will know there is some connectivity). Have any telephone extentions been installed, and are you using a broadband filter? Have you been paying your bills vaughan?

oh yeah, i've paid the bills alright!

I have a dialtone, and am using a ASDL filter. No extensions have been fitted.

OK.... I disabled the WEP security, unplugged the cable directly from the PC (to the router) and tried to connect wirelessly. No luck

However: I have been on the netgear page (192....) two things caught my eye, which may or may not matter. On the "router status" settings the IP for my router is different to the one XP gives me. (apologies, I have no idea if this is normal). Shall I manually type these IP number sinto the windows wireless connection box (settings, manually provide IP add)??

Also, not sure if this is worth noting: but on the firewall settings under Outbound services it states: ALLOW ALWAYS and under inbound it states: BLOCK ALWAYS.

Could the inbound setting be the problem?

Failing that, is it worth trying to re-install the netgear USB stuff now I have disabled security? I think im running out of options here...

IT F----G WORKS!

Basically, after all my ridiculous ideas I disabled the WEP security and then re-installed the software. Obviously, I could not do this without plugging it into the router first, to access the Netgear domain.

And, of course, I couldn't (wouldn't have thought of it) without you. Thanks a million, you have really helped me out.

Let's hope I don't end up back on here with another problem for sometime yet!!!
It's nice to see forums which are actually supportive of newbies and particulary people with limited experience with this sort of thing.

i'll add a thanks.
