Article 871122 is this one here: Error message when you try to run the Wireless Network Setup Wizard after you update to Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005

'Now when you connect via your NetGear software, do you receive an error message?

OK, ill look at that site...

The thing is, now there isn't the option of the MS connection I cannot open up the Netgear software to even try to configure anything (it opens for a fraction of a second, then closes).
In the system tray there is an icon which apparently is connected....

Unfortunately, it still doesnt work.

I'll try what i says on the site and post back to you either tonight or tomorrow....

Right, this gets more unusual..

I turned my PC on (i had a few extra mins before work) and now the windows wireless connection is back (it is now listed as a connection). However, If i double click the icon to show the networks, once again - nothing appears.

I can however, access the NetGear application.

I went on the windows help site you linked for me and tried what it suggested, and it does not work. I have also tried accessing the Netgear domain (192.168 etc...) and it does not work.

The netgear software claims I have a good connection, but when windows tries to aquire a network address and / or renew my IP address it fails (the icon in the system tray tells me this: "Limited or no connectivity). Also, whenever I try to "repair" the connection, by right clicking the icon I get the message "Could not repair the problem: Renewing your IP address, contact the person who set up the network"

Vaughan, can you try plugging your PC into your router via ethernet cable?
