Default Problem with printer sharing...

Hi. I'd be very grateful for any help here...

I've recently got my desktop and laptop wirelesly networked, which all works fine. Unfortunately, I'm completely stumped when trying to network my printer.
I go to Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes and right click my printer, set "share this printer" and give it a share name, yet when I hit OK I get the message "Printer settings could not be saved. Operation could not be completed."
I have no clue what is causing the error or how to go about fixing it.

It could also be linked to another problem I have when I try to share a folder on my PC. Although I've set some folders to shared status, I cannot get access to them from my laptop. However, sharing folders on my laptop works fine and I can access them from either machine. It's no real big problem, 'cos I just use a single folder (resident on laptop) to pass files between the two. It's curious though and would be nice to set any folder and have it act as it should... Still I guess that's PCs for ya!

Cheers

Hi betterspud....this all sounds very much like Windows Firewall issues to me.

Try disabling them all and try sharing the files/folders and printer again.

Disabling the firewall makes no difference. Anyhow, I have Windows firewall set to allow printer/file sharing.
Thanks for suggesting it though. Anything is worth checking. If you have any more thoughts...

Thanks for your help guys, but I've some how managed to find the root of the problem.
It seems that I had disabled the "server" service on my user's profile on my desktop PC. Now that I've re-enabled it. I've got full access both ways between my networked machines.

Only problem I'm having is that, although I've set my printer up as shared, when I try to add printer on my laptop, it seems unable to locate it.
Will keep tinkering and hopefully I'll get to the bottom of this...

Thanks again
