Default Wireless Network Adapter to wireless laptop card

Hi there, I'm back, alive and well with a nice new problem for you to solve if your willing to help ...I just recently purchased a dell latitude c600 refurbish'd off ebay, discovered the ethernet port dosen't work on it so decided "Hey i'll go wireless, should be easy enough" today, when I purchased the wireless card I was proven wrong, I have no computer knowledge when it comes to wireless, but I am good in all other area's of the computer as some of you may know..

I have tried having a play with the settings and managed to get it to connect and share the internet a few times, I am just using the normal built-in windows wireless sharing connection wizard, Once I have got the internet sharing working, I can browse the web freely until I restart either the laptop or desktop computer, thats when the laptop just wont conect to the desktop again until I play with the settings again, trying to get the desktop to connect to the laptop and vice versa...., The laptop will find the desktop computer, but will just continue to try to connect for about a minute then just stop, giving me the option to click connect again. I tried solving this problem by playing with the settings, and now it will say its connected to this computer from the laptop but the desktop computer will say its not connected to anything. I'm wondering if I have not set the settings correctly.

This Pc's Specs (Desktop pc, where I wish to share the internet connection from)

Gigabyte GN-WP01GS PCI WLAN Card(Turbo) 54mbps

The laptop Specifications(What I wish to share the internet with wireless):-

Dell Latitude c600
Pentium 3 1.0ghz
Ram:-256
Windows: Windows XP5.1 (Build 2600) Service Pack 2
wireless laptop card:-Belkin Wireless G+ Notebook Card 125mbps

Sorry about the lack of info for the laptop. Any more information required I will try to get it for you.

Ok here's the problem, I plugg'd the wireless card into the laptop and installed all drivers, also install'd the drivers for the Wireless Network Adapter..I then set both cards to use the windows built-in wireless connection manager (or whatever its called) ...and then I ran the setup home / office wireless network wizard, The laptop then found the desktop computer and the internet began to share, I then did the windows updates on my laptop then once I had restarted the laptop to complete the updates the wireless connection wouldn't connect again, I disabled the firewalls but still no luck..I noticed that SOMETIMES If I restart both computers at once it will sometimes connect again, but I tryed to solve this problem by changing the settings, but no luck.. Now I think I've mixed all the settings up, I will include a picture of the settings below...

Basically What I need help with...:-

1) If you could please take a look and tell me if there correct, and if not how to set them for internet sharing and file sharing between the laptop and desktop computer...

2) Make it connect again once one of the computers has been restarted..

3) Is it possible to increase the transfer rate as it is set at 11mbps when it is possible for it to do 54mbps..

4)Should I have it obtain its own IP address or have it set by myself?

Sorry for the worlds longest essay, Any help is much appreciated thx Dave

Information included in picture's below... Had to split them into 2 pictures due to upload limits...

The way I understand is also is that you have two PC's connecting to each other directly via wireless, and using ICS on one PC to share the internet connection.

If you use a wireless router that is always switched on, you will be able to have a perminent connection to it, and it won't matter which PC you shut down. Also you won't have to rely on one PC to be on, for the other to access the internet. Here is an example of one:

Amazon.co.uk: Netgear WGR614UK Wireless 54G Cable/DSL Router: Electronics & Photo

There isn't a wireless router involved, just a norman bt broadband 220 8megabit modem, I don't mind having the desktop computer on to use the laptop wireless..Its just say I need to restart either of the 2 computers then the wireless connection wont connect again once it has restarted..Also I don't know if the settigns are correct...My dads just been offered the bt wireless hub for a free upgrade but it requires another 12 month contract with them so I don't know if he's going ahead with that or not yet...If not I will need to try and sort out the settings and workout if there's a way to get it to connect again once 1 computer is restarted without having to play with connection settings trying to get them to connect for a while...Thx for your replies..
