Default [Fixed] wireless wont find hardwired pc

i ve just bought a linksys wag300n wireless router. im having a few problems setting it up. ive never had a wireless network before so im not entirely sure what im doing. im sure ive connected up corrected following the instruction from the cd that came with it. it says that when i switch it on, the power and the dsl lights should be on, which they are. it also says that one of the lights indicating that my pc is connected should be on, but its not. it tells me to check my connections, but i cant see anything wrong. is there anyway of checking that my ethernet connection on my pc is working? or is there something else that i should be doing on my pc before i get to this stage? i know this question has probably been asked a thousand times on here. any help would be appreciated.

Hi Jamie,

There's normally an orange light on the socket itself on the PC. This is normally lit also when there is a connection.

If not, try the following:
- Go to My Computer, Control Panel, Network Connections.
- You should see Local Area Connection ?
- If this icon has an x next to it, right click on it, and Enable.

- If not, try a different ethernet cable.

well the good news is, i took the router back and got a new one which seems to have solved this particular problem. the bad news is, i now have another problem. the routers setup wizard runs me through various security settings and passwords . it then says 'saving setting' and comes up with a progess bar. but after a couple of minutes it comes up with an error saying " unable to detect internet connection , please go to advanced setting page and check connection type. im not sure where this advanced settings page is or what connection i need.
