Default [Fixed] Wanadoo/Laptop wireless

We have a computer down stairs that is connected to wanadoo broadband via the ethernet cable and a laptop upstairs connect by wireless. I had a laptop that worked fine, no problems with the wireless but recnetly I got a new laptop. I have set this laptop up exactly the same, both trying with the in-build wireless and wireless adapater sent by wanadoo. The problem isnt that the laptop doesnt get a signal as it gets a great signal its just always Aquiring Netowork Address. Therefore I cannot access the internet via wireless on the laptop. I hvae been on the phone to wanadoo for about 45 minutes but they are about as good as a blind monkey. Please could anybody help me sort this as its very infuriating. Im not very computer literate so please make it simple, thanks a bunch.

Hello didihamann,

Have you tried swapping the two wireless adaptors between the laptops to see if it is a hardware problem?

I havent got the old laptop no more, went bust. Just the one laptop. I think they work as what are the chance of both an in-built wireless and wireless adapter haveing the exact same problem.

From what I remember, wanadoo use their own software to configure the wireless connection on the first wireless PC. It creates a unique encryption key and a hidden SSID. This makes it difficult for you to set your wireless connection up on a second wireless PC.

On the working PC, you need to go into internet explorer, and type in the address of your router, normally 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. This will allow you access to your router configuration page. From there you need you will need to remember the username and password used to setup your wireless box. In the configuration pages, look for a link called "Wireless" and change your security level to none. This will allow your laptop to see your router.

Finally go through the Wanadoo setup as normal.
