OK, I have an internal wireless adapter at 54Mb/s, and a router at 54Mb/s

We have 2 computers in the house, and for some reason, the external USB reciever is faster than the internal one. I noticed some problems with the internal PC reciever, experiencing downtime and constant disconections etc... so I installed the eternal, I now have a 54mb/s connection, not a 1mb/s one.

It's strange, both signals show up as "Excellent"

Any ideas?

Hello spudguy,

Your router and external appear to be 802.11g (maximum speed 54 mb/s). Could your internal card be 802.11b (maximum speed 11 mb/s)?

Well that's a new one for me! The fact that you have two different wireless connections, one works perfectly, the other does not pritty much rules out most software problems (firewall, anti-virus). The only thing I would suggest, is to check is your network settings in Control Panel, Network Connections. Right click on your two wireless connections, go to Properties, and make sure everything in there is identical, but I can't imagine this one being a software problem.

I would also check to make sure there is nothing near the card itself which may cause interfearance. You can still have a strong signal, with poor quality. I've also heard of cases where the router can be too close to the card itself, but I don't know if this is true or not.

Ok, thanks for the help, but I think it may be the card. *Sigh* I'll try and get a new one on warranty.
