Default [FIXED] Wireless Hotspot creation

Hya,

We're opening up a sort of cafe and we want to provide our customers with the ability to come in and connect to our wireless connection with their laptops, phones, PSPs, and other wireless-enabled handheld devices. I just wanted to know if we need a more robust router or if a standard 54G Linksys wireless router will do the trick. We have a 10Mbs line running into the cafe.

Also, places like Barnes and Nobles and stuff require you to sign in and pay to use their wireless service, we don't want to make people pay but neither do we want unanymous people connecting to the network and use it without our supervision. How could we set it up so that a customer would need to get a key or ID activated for an hour or so, and once the time is up, they'll have to get a new one. Would we need a server computer for that? If so, what software and stuff do we need running on it?

Thanxs in advance for any help

Cheers

Hey Darklord

Personally I would go for the more 'Robust' router, it would probably work out better for the future.

As for your other question well you could do exactly what "Barnes and Nobles" do except not charge your customers.

I am unsure what equipment you would need to be able to setup such a system, maybe send someone into other places like Barnes and Nobles undercover and see whether they can speak to the staff or try figure it out.

If there are other people that know how to put such a system in place then feel free to comment.

Thanxs for the help, we got ahold of a VPN secured Linksys wireless router built for small businesses, so it's got very tight security, and aparently to do the connection like Barnes and Nobles we need to setup a server with the right software. We're gonna go "undercover" this weekend
