Default Windows XP Pro Connection Problem

First off I would like to thank all the people here, I've used this site to figure out alot of problems but this is the first time I couldn't figure it out without making a post. This may be a bit confusing but please stick with me.

This is the info on my notebook how I bought it. Not sure what info is needed.

Operating System - Windows XP Home Edition with sp2
Processor - Intel pentium 4 processor 532 - Operates at 3.06 ghz - 1 mb l2 cache and 533 mhz FFSB
Memory - 512 mb DDR SODIMM
Network/modem - 802.11g wireless with 125 mb high speed mode - 10/100 built in ethernet - 56k ITU v.92 ready fax/modem
ports - 1 firewire (IEEE 1394), 4 USB, 1 VGA, 1 MIC, 1 Headphone

When I first set up my wireless it was very easy, just turned it on with fn+f2 and I was able to view wireless connections. But here is where I messed up. I had some computer problems so I decided to do a system restore. But after the process restores all the files it freezes halfway through installing drivers again so I can't get that version of windows back. I installed windows xp pro and followed these instructions to start wireless zero but it still doesn't show any wireless tab and im sure I did these steps correctly.
  1. Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
  2. If you're in Category View, then click the Network and Internet Connections icon, then the Network Connections icon. If you're in Classic View, double-click the Network Connections icon.
  3. In the Network Connections window, under LAN or High Speed Internet, select the Local Area Connection icon. On the menu bar, click File and select Properties, or just right-click on the Local Area Connection icon and select Properties from the context menu).
  4. In the Local Area Connection Properties window, on the General tab, click the Install button.
  5. In the Select Network Component Type window, under "Click the type of network component you want to install," click to select the Service icon, then click the Add button.
  6. In the Select Network Service window, click the Have Disk button, then the Browse button.
  7. In the Locate File window, browse to the C:\Windows\Inf folder (this is a hidden folder). Click to select NETWZC.INF, then click the Open button.
  8. In the Install From Disk window, click the OK button.
  9. In the Select Network Service window, in the Network Service box, select Microsoft as the manufacturer, then click to select Wireless Zero Configuration.
  10. Click the OK button.
The only thing in network connections is an icon under lan/high speed internet that says "1394 connection-connected/firewalled/ 1394 net adapter.

Any ideas on how else to get this wireless thing going? I've spent way too much money repairing computers lately and I would hate to have to do it again.

Welcome to PC Help Forum, glad you registered

Have you got the original cd that came with the laptop? If so, can you do the following:

right click on "my computer" > properties > hardware tab > device manager > network adapters > locate the wireless adapter > right click on it and select uninstall. Re-boot and let Windows re-find and re-install the card.

Are you using a wireless access point connected to a modem or a modem/router/wireless all in one?
