Default Using Windows XP with 128bit Passphrase

I recently bought a new adapter for my laptop (Linksys Wireless G) because the adapter from my old computer wasn't designed for laptops and looked unsightly. I tried installing the Linksys software but Windows kept butting in and it wouldn't work.

I know the SSID of the network I want to connect to, but on the transmitter label is a passphrase. I know from the instructions from the old adapter that this is used to create a 128bit 4-Key encryption used to connect to the adapter. The problem is that I don't know where in the Windows setup I enter this passphrase. It only asks for the network key, which I don't know.

Could you tell me either how to do this with Windows, or else how to stop Windows from interfering with the Linksys software.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks in advance,

James

Welcome to PCHF

Windows will stop interfering with the Linksysy stuff if you turn off "Windows Zero Configuration" in Services

How do I access services? And also, why would the network suddenly not be visible (along with my neighbours network which could be seen originally)?

Thanks for the quick response.

Ok to stop the Wireless Zero Configuration service. Go to Start, click Run and type services.msc .
