Default Which Router?

I have all my pcs kept in my cellar, its a victorian house u c, anyways i want to get a connection to my laptop in my bedroom which is 3 floors up in my attic roughly 20 metres in distance and i want to set up a wireless access point (gateway through the uplink in my normal wire linksys router in my cellar. Now i got a wire to the next floor (the ground floor) and i can plug the access point box in here if needed for better signal purposes. Now here is the question, with such a amount of distance from the ground floor to the attic, maybe 15metres in distance at most what kind of gateway router am i going to need. Im thinking of a linksys for compatability with my current router. My laptop has a fairly good internal wireless connecter built in thought im notsure what its spec is. I was looking at the 802 linksys access point but im not sure if its gonna gurantee me a good strong signal. Can anybody recommend the best router (gateway) that will get me a good signal on my 2mbit connection. Techniques or parts etc anything to gurantee what i buy will work for me (as i buy off the net). Running a wire all the way up is gonna be more trouble than it is worth u c

many many thanks in advance

Hi Envy

To be honest, I think you'll be better off placing the wireless router in the cellar and then having a wireless access point somewhere in between to boost the signal - yup, Linksys is a good route to take imho.

well these pcs down here r fine with wires but i see your point, the question i really wanna know is will the signal be strong anyways from the bottom floor to the top, i mean how do u know what the maximum range is for various routers, is there a code in that can be translated to meter distance etc?
