Default [Fixed] Router questions

I want to buy a wireless router (a cheap, $60 one) rfom RadioShack.
My situation is: I want my PSP to connect like it already has, but better and more often, since I only use and find wifi connections that my neighbours must have. (with very weak connections).

I barely know what a wireless router does, but want my internet connection to be split up and sent through the air so my PSP can find it.

but:

1)will it be difficult to set up...becase I dont know alot about computers?
2) will I need to buy anything else because all I have is a PC and a wired modem (no special cards or whatnot)
3) should this help my PSP connection problems: the errors say that the connection was not found/broken (I was hoping that having one in my own home would remove the connection errors).
4) can I have a brief explaination of what a wireless router is and how it works?
5) what is a wireless card? Will I need one just for connecting my PSP?
Thank!? :-)

ALL right!
Welcom to PCHF!? If you plan to hook your wirless network up to you PS2 you will need to purchase a wireless bridge (like one of these http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...sp?CatId=1594&) which will plug into ur PS2 like a normal cable modem (No wireless card unless you install one into your pc!). Then it communicates with your wireless router.? If you computer has an ethernet card which im sure it does, you are better off just leaving that hardwired (as in with a RJ47 "patch" or "crossover cable" depending on the router.? One will probably come with the router.)?

Your own home wireless network is easy to set up, but you need ot have some security.? Once you get the router set up you should be able to go to 192.168.0.1 (or something close to that) in IE and you will login in as admin and there you can change how the router works.? The key is to find some sore of MAC address filtering, that way you can set it so only your wireless bridge can connect to your router.? That way YOUR neighbors cant log onto YOUR connection :P(Or hackers for that matter).

A wireless router takes your home divices and connected them together without wires of course!? It allows them to share files, printers, a connection to the internet (which is what you want), and more.

any other questions?

Thankyou, but I said PSP, not pS2. The PSP has BUILT IN WiFi. I was already playing a few online games but thats because I just randomly found these connections that arent mine. The connections were only a few a places in my home, and were very weak. So if I bought one for my home, should it be very strong and easy to connect to? And for security, isnt a WEP good enough? (whats MAC?) (because when setting one up on my PSP, you can enter the WEP key thing...)

Is there a picture or diagram anywhere that would show the connections made to set up a wireless router? Because all I have is my modem, 2 ethernet cables, and my PC...is that all I need to set it up?

Thankyou for your help!

well i gtg now, but ill do some diggin or make one for u later . It should be very dimple. One ethernet cable from your modem to the router (in the Wan or Internet port), then one from router to PC in port 1, and then it should automatically let ur psp on. Then you should be able to montior what is currently connected by goin to 192.168.0.1 (or w/e, the instruction booklet will say exactly) and monitor what is connected. THen you can right down its MAC address. A MAC address is an address that is burned into (as in permanent, although now you can create dummie ones...grr hacking made easy...) you Network Interfac Card. Then you should be able to set up a mac filter and allow that mac address you recorded and the only you can use your network!

as far as a diagram, Your router will probably come w/ a fairly user friendly instruction booklet and quick set up that should help with that!
