Default [Pending] Could Windows XP be disrupting my wireless connection?

Hi all,

I have a bit of a problem here: my wireless connection to my Di624 (D-link) router is quite unstable. I've fiddled with channels a bit and settled on 10 for now, as the most stable, but still the thing often cuts out and then takes ages to reconnect. The odd thing is, though, that the software which came with my wireless card (Am1772 Chipset) seems to pick up the connection a lot more readily than windows Xp (SP2) does, and also seems prone to find a stronger signal - I have two little icons in the bottom corner of my screen, one for that software and one for the connection as windows sees it, and it's from these that I'm judging this. Indeed, windows can be sat there dumbly for several minutes not doing anything while the other software is reading a perfectly good connection. However, windows seems to have the vito on being able to connect out, so whilever it's messing about I can't use the network. Is this likely to be a weakness with windows, and is there anything I can do about it?

Cheers,
Weev.

Hi & welcome.

Personally I don't use the software that comes with the cards, I tend to give Windows full control...sometimes a bit of both gives errors.

Things to try...

1) Make sure that the "Windows Zero Configuration" service is started in your services - and is set to Automatic
2) In the config screens for the wireless connection, select "Let Windows mange my Wireless connection"
3) Close the third party software that you installed with the wireless card.

Just realised i probably should have posted this in the section below. Anyway - removing that software has had the effect of completely uninstalling the wireless adaptor

Ok, so you will need to put it back on then - it was something that has worked for me in the past

What's the exact make and model of the wireless adapter?

In that case make sure that the box for "Let Windows mange my Wireless connection" remains unchecked and that you stop the "Windows Zero Configuration" service and set it to either manual or dis-abled - your third party software/adapter doesn't need it!
