Default Installing a new hard drive

My current hard drive is getting very unreliable and I want to replace it before it goes south...is there a way to copy the entire drive--windows xp, programs, drivers and all--onto a secondary internal drive or do I have to go through the hassle of reinstalling windows and all the programs manually?

thanks in advance,

rf

Wow, must have missed this one...

Sure, you can "Clone" your hard drive, thus creating an exact copy of the drive to place onto the new drive. To do it properly however, you will need to buy soething like Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image - unless someone else knows of a quality FREE proggy

Default Disk Copy

Hi Tuneguy,

I managed to find a free disk copy utility at here, I haven't tested it myself but it is free so you might try it out and let us know how it goes.

the free utility is called Disk copy 1.0 at the bottom of the page:cheesy:

Default HD CLone

Hi, Thanks to all who replied. I ended up using a free disk copying utility called HDClone. Very simple interface and easy to use...worked like a charm. The only limitation seems to be that you can't (or it least not without a lot trouble) copy a larger drive onto a smaller one. Anyway, here's the link if anyone needs it:
