Hi, my laptop freezes after installing SP2 onto XP home edition, if i touch the pad it starts again, I know its because of SP2 because I uninstalled it, and it works fine. Very annoying because I cant leave it
In a related incidence to SP2, it now will no longer connect to my Linksys wifi router, although it will connect to others with no problem.
Look forward to your help
The laptop is a cybermaxx, which I think is medion

Hey I will input a little while you wait for one of the Techs.
Firstly how much RAM do you have installed? How much free space do you have on your hard drive? Lets give the computer a little cleanup: http://www.pchelpforum.com/general-a...eaner-how.html Open CCleaner/click cleaner button on left/click analyze/once analyze has finished click run cleaner button. Click start/open run box/type in run box cmd and hit ok/in the command window type in sfc /scannow pop in the xp install disk and hit enter on your keyboard. Now can you install SP2? You do know SP3 is out and ready for download? An SP can appear to freeze and halt during install possibly due to an older computer with lack of RAM etc.

Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600
System Manufacturer MEDIONNB System Model FID2130 Processor x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 9 GenuineIntel ~3200 Mhz Total Physical Memory 512.00 MB Available Physical Memory 102.91 MB Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB It is about 7 years old I installed SP2 years ago only to find this problem, and took it back off because of the freezing and wifi problem, I only put it back on because I needed SP2 for itunes, I have since installed SP3 but the problem still exists. There were no problems during installation Regarding the wifi problem, I think that SP2 cuts comms on certain ports which I believe the linksy operates on, I dont know if this is true, or how I can get around this, I have tried an update from microsoft provided by a link on a linksys forum, but it said the update was an older version of what I already had and wouldnt allow me to downgrade |

Hi
Try this: Go here and start downloading the SP1 one Bulletin at a time. That way you' will find the Microsoft Security Bulletins responsible.

Apologies for not replying sooner but I work offshore so will not be able to try this until I get back. But just to check about the SP1 bulletins, I have tried in the past to download a bulletin regarding comms port but it wouldnt let me because I already had a newer version, will this be any different considering I already have SP3 installed

If you already have SP3 installed you don't need to go back and install SP2 which is most likely why you're having problems.
