The title says it all.
It started a few weeks ago- my son was playing PC games and out of the blue the computer would go "dead" and then starts again.
Since today, the following happens- I start the PC, enter the password, the screen shows the icons, but when I try to open a programme, the PC goes "dead" only to restart by itself.
I do not have all the details of the system now, but my OS is Windows XP SP2, I have 2 hard drives, 160GB each and I think 1 GB of RAM.
Thanks

First job if you can install SP3 which re writes all the O/S and may fix it. Check the event logs to see if there is any messages in there. Is it all programs that crash it or just those on the desktop?
Does it work ok in save mode have you added any games or hardware? |

I'm sorry- should have updated you.
After a day of struggling, I took the PC to a local guy. Not sure what was wrong, but he fixed it. I basically think the PC was full of rubbish, programmes that I do not use, etc. He cleaned, defragmented, etc. Working fine now |
