I would like to not only backup my files, folders, media, etc., but I want to backup my software. I have many different software programs, and every time I get a new computer or mine crahes I have to manually install them, and that is if I still have them. I have Windows XP. A friend told me Super Duper is a great program, but I'm not sure if it does what I want and I think that program is for a Mac. I am not necessary looking for a free program, I'll pay for the best program there is, as long as it does what I want. So, I have two questions.
1. What is this type of backup called where you backup your software programs as well as personal files?
2. What Backup program would you recommend?
I've performed a few internet searches for this topic and have come up empty. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks Wolfeymole! So the type of backup I want to perform is called... a "hard disk drive copy"? or a "hard disk drive clone"? I asked this because I didn't know how to perform an internet search for it.
You feel that Acronis is the best product for this? Are there any other suggestions? |

To all intents and purposes a clone or copy of the hard disk is one and the same in an Acronis scenario.
It will make a complete backup of everything you have on that drive. I would advise though that you obtain an external drive or, if you have an internal separate drive, to back up to that. Your question.

I posted this thread of backup software links here in May 2009, I'm surprised that the site search did not pick it up for you...

Thanks again. I appreciate both responses. I have two external hard drives to backup to, so I think I'll be alright in that department. I was performing a google search with different search criteria similar to what you wrote above, but the results kept coming back with ALL backup programs, most of which did not state they performed what I was looking for. Thanks again.
