Hi to all, since a month I have this problem:
In the first days the internet exploration began to get slow, with some Internet Explorer error of page visualization, then I was forced to switch off and on the router in order XP could see the connection.
After a week, the internet and the lan didn't work anymore, so I could not neither to get the access to the router from my desktop-pc, even if XP sees the net-wire plugged-in and so the router.
Cables and wires aren't damaged, i tried to reinstall them.
My ISP told me that ADSL works fine (infact I'm writing to you from my laptop).
I've done a full scan of antivirus and spyware: nothing found.
Rootkit search and Hijackthis scan: nothing found.
CClean: registry clean.
Also I tryed to install the USB connection pen (the one that was together the ADSL wifi router): the pen works fine of laptops (mine and the one of my wife), on the desktop-pc it works fine (fine installation, excellent signal) but even if XP tells me that the pc is connected to the net (it sends and receives packets), it doesn't allow me to go on the web and it doesn't allow me to go on the router.
I've also tried to uninstall SP3, reinstall the Ethernet drivers and uploading the last official release of the router's firmware.
Also I tried to reset the router and manually config it from zero.
Nothing done.
The last thing I've done is to restore a previous "restore point" of 2 month ago, when everything was ok, but I still have the same problem.
How could I resolve this problem? Could someone help me please?
Thank you in advance.
---my pc--
OS: windows xp professional
Ethernet: (integrated with motherboard ASUS) nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet - driver 15.45 nForce
Modem/Router: DNG2000 NETGEAR WIFI with also USB pen (for PC I use the wire cablation to router, the net wire is not crossed)
LAN CONFIGURATION: Phone>ADSL filter>Router>
-->desktop PC - wired connection to the router from Ethernet door, non-crossed wire;
-->laptop PC - wireless connection to the router (different IP).
ADSL: works fine, it's AliceADSL in Italy

What is the router and whats its ip address?
In device manager is there any errors for the network card? To start can you open a cmd window by going to start run type cmd and then a window will open. In the window type ipconfig /all and post the results keep the window open and type netsh int ip reset c:\tcpiprebuild.log Reboot the pc and see if it then work if not do a ipconfig /all again and post the results. So thats two ipconfig /all one before the command and one after |

Thanks for the reply ^^
The router ip is: 192.168.0.1 The pc ip is: 192.168.0.2 Ipconfig /all after the first boot: Host Name: ORCHIDEA Prymary dns: none Node type: NO IP routing enabled: NO Proxy WINS enabled: NO Ethernet Connection to local network (LAN)5: Status: disconnected Description: NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet Physics address: 00-22-15-2d-5b-a7 ---- Ipconfig /all after the first boot: Host Name: ORCHIDEA Prymary dns: none Node type: NO IP routing enabled: NO Proxy WINS enabled: NO Ethernet Connection to local network (LAN)5: Status: disconnected Description: NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet Physics address: 00-22-15-2d-5b-a7 ---- Ipconfig /all after the first boot: Host Name: ORCHIDEA Prymary dns: none Node type: NO IP routing enabled: NO Proxy WINS enabled: NO Ethernet Connection to local network (LAN)5: Status: disconnected Description: NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet Physics address: 00-22-15-2d-5b-a7 ---- Ipconfig /all after the netsh int ip reset c:\tcpiprebuild.log Host Name: ORCHIDEA Prymary dns: none Node type: NO IP routing enabled: NO Proxy WINS enabled: NO Ethernet Connection to local network (LAN)5: Status: disconnected Description: NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet Physics address: 00-22-15-2d-5b-a7 ---- Ipconfig /all after rebooting the router: Host Name: ORCHIDEA Prymary dns: none Node type: NO IP routing enabled: NO Proxy WINS enabled: NO Ethernet Connection to local network (LAN)5: DNS suffix for connection: (none) Description: NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet Physics address: 00-22-15-2d-5b-a7 DHCP enabled: no IP address: 192.168.0.2 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.0.1 Server DNS: 212.216.112.112 212.216.172.62 (those are the one that my ISP gave me, also i've tried some open dns some days ago, but with no result) ---- In NET CONNECTION folder I've only 2 icons: - 1394 Net Adapter - NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet (LAN) When I try to restore 1934 Net Adapter, xp tells me that i cannot complete the restore. It tells me that TCP/IP is not active for this connection, impossible to continue. Even if i set the TCP/IP manually (I have to insert a different IP number from the actual 192.168.0.2) or automatically. In Right-click>Properties, the field TPC/IP is enabled with the "v". For the moment it is set to automatically. On the right click menu, the DELETE field is obscured. Now xp sees the lan, but these are PING result: ping 192.168.0.1 > 100% packets lost Ping to itself: ping 192.168.0.2 > 100% received <1ms I tried to ping from my laptop: to the router: ping 192.168.0.1 received 100% <~2ms to desktop: ping 192.168.0.2 Destination host not reachable - 100% sent, 100% received, 0% lost. Maybe is it a problem of windows register (reset some parameter) or a software conflict like a "firewall" block? ...even with the antivirus AVIRA and the windows firewall closed i still have the same problem. In the device manager there is no warning of conflict or errors, i searched one by one the hardware and all is working fine (alas xp tell this to me). Thank you again for your support. |

Some things to try forget about the 1394 Net Adapter that is a firewire which isnt used.
got network connection and choose properties for there should be a list like Ms Client for windows and others what do you have. from a cmd prompt like you used for the ipconfig try tracert 194.119.131.66 ping 194.119.131.66 Let us know the results. do an ipconfig /all on a pc thats working and let us have the results. As you cant connect try unistalling your AV as this can block it as your not connected there is little danger and it will be out of date anyway. Disable the firewall are yo using windows firewall? It may be worth creating a new users with admin rights and logging in as the new user and trying as this will give you a new profile in case the old one is corrupt. You could try downloading a live cd as these will boot from cd without effecting your c: drive and as long as you have dhcp active on your router you should be able to get to the internet. Most are linux but its simple enough to use its like windows and just use firefox and try the internet. This would help as if they work it proves the network card, cable and router all work from that pc so the problem is windows if it doesnt work then we are looking at a cable network card fault |

Thank you very much Samuria for the reply, and sorry if I'm writing so late.
Well, I uninstalled Antivirus and stopped firewall (windows xp firewall); then I rebooted xp, and created a new user with admin privileges. The new account still gave me the impossibility to navigate on the web. I tried to do "tracert 194.119.131.66" command: Detection of enrouting through 194.119.131.66 with a maximum of 30 steps (sorry for my imprecise translation to english) Steps from 1 to 30: * * * Expired request Detection completed Result of "ping 194.119.131.66" after this: expired request for all 4 packets. Transmitted 4, received 0, lost 4 (100%lost) I tried some livecd (slax, dsl, nimblex): after set the ip addresses, they sees the connection, but it's not possible to me to go on router ip (192.168.0.1) nor on the web. I cannot say if is a ethernet card problem or a router problem. at this point, does it have sense to try another not-integrated network card? |

You could try from a cmd prompt
netsh winsock reset catalog If you have another network card I would give it a go the live cd doesnt touch windows so it really rules out windows and that only leaves the network card cable or router |
