Default Msstyles file association broken?

Hmmmm... I'm trying to get some msstyles theme to function properly. I'm using WinXP btw. First, the msstyles folder was copied into F:\Windows\Themes and the folder contains shell.dll and the msstyles file itself.

Then, I ran uxtheme 6.0 successfully but when I double-clicked on the msstyles theme, I got some sort of error about "no program associated". I also tried to create a file association:
"Msstyles = Msstyles file" but it now opens with Notepad.

Any idea how I can get msstyles to work again? Things started going kinda wrong when I installed the Nokia Phone Suite which sorta broke quite a few things, most of which I managed to fix.

I've taken a look at the File Associations thread but there's no solution for this problem in there. Also, how can I find out which file associations are intact and which aren't?

Edit: And omg... dumb, dumb Nokia... now I'll have to manually uninstall their PC Suite as their uninstall function is broken... :/

Welcome to the forum. If you find the theme you want in explorer right click on the file choose properties you will see it says open with and to the right it says change click on change and select the program you want to open it with and that should be that.

If you are running xp sp3 you need to replace files for themes to work the old version of the file pre sp2 wont work

Erm, that "Open with" association no longer works. Or rather, it opens with Notepad instead. That's why I posted for help.

Did you change the properties as instructed above? If so what happened. The icon on the file should change to show its now opening with a new program. It does sometimes take a min or two

I double-clicked the msstyles file and it opens with Notepad too... lol. Errr wait... earlier, you mentioned that certain files are needed to replace XP SP3... oh darn, I missed this line. I guess I'll reboot my pc, replace the dll files and try again? :P
