Unhappy XP boot nightmare

Hi,

Hope someone could give me some advice

My mums laptop got a virus which the anti virus got rid of but it also removed the ntdlr file.

I need to do a clean install of XP (i know this will completely wipe the hard drive) but the only problem is the cd drive is broken so i need to do it from a USB stick.

Or the other option would be to remove the hard drive and use it in a caddy on my mac to install XP on it like that but i dont even know if thats possible?

Please help any advice is welcomed.

Thanks Kegs xx

The last one will probably be LAN, would this be correct Kegs?

If booting from USB is not an option then you will need to buy a new optical drive (cdrom).

The Mac angle is not viable unfortunately.

Hi Wolfy Mole

The third option is PXE....?

Not sure what this is?

Could the cd rom not be reading the disk because the anti virus took away the drivers too? If this is the case can the drivers be install if windows wont start? then that way i could do a full clean install from the cd once the drivers enable the cd rom again.

Hope that makes sense.
